Type of Skin Cancer:
Squamous Cell Carcinoma – This type of skin cancer, affecting cells on the top layer of the skin or the epidermis. This may appear like a scab or crusty patch at first. This type of cancer usually caused by years of UV exposure and one of the most common types of skin cancer. Sun is not always the main cause, other factors may contribute as well. If you are worried that you might have a squamous cell carcinoma due to high UV exposure, schedule an appointment with Dr. Harold F Farber, M.D.
Basal Cell Carcinoma– This type of skin cancer affects cells of the deepest layer of the epidermis. Basal cell carcinoma is abnormal growths that occur in areas that have the most UV exposure. If this is not treated, it can cause other serious issues. Here at Center for Dermatology Laser and Cosmetic Surgery LLC, Dr. Harold F Farber, M.D. offers a full-body scanning.
Melanoma – This is the most dangerous type of skin cancer. Melanoma can spread very rapidly all over your body and can put your life at risk. If you have an atypical looking lesion, schedule an appointment with Dr. Harold F. Farber, M.D.
Treatment options for skin cancer
Cryosurgery – This treatment is mainly used on precancerous skin lesions. This is a non-invasive procedure using liquid nitrogen to freeze and destroy growths on the surface of the skin.
Curettage – This is a procedure that scrapes the atypical lesions and then follows this with some destructive treatment to any of the remaining bad cells in the area.
Surgical This procedure is to remove the cancer cells through excision using local anesthetic and sutures.
Mohs Surgery – This skin cancer treatment that removes cancer by stages and layers. Each layer of skin is examined under the microscope to detect if any cancer cells are still there. This is a layer-by-layer approach until no cancer cells are left.
