Another name for freckles are “sun kisses”. Freckles are formed by sunlight interacting with a pigment in the skin called melanin. Genetics can also play a role as well making people more susceptible to freckle formation. While freckles range in color between dark and tan.
There are different types of freckles: Ephilides freckles and Lentigines freckles. Ephelides freckles form directly from sunlight contact thus appear during the summer time. However, when winter comes around these freckles disappear. Lentigines freckles are more dark in color and do not disappear during the winter season.
Here at the Center for Dermatology, Laser and Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Harold F. Farber M.D. can remove unwanted freckles using a variety of methods including various types of lasers.
These state-of-the-art lasers involve high concentrations of energy focused on small areas of tissue. The energy of light is absorbed by the melanin thus eventually causing destruction of the melanin leading to freckle removal.
Another type of laser uses light at a specific wavelength where it breaks up the melanin when absorbed. Eventually, the melanin is brought to the surface of the skin where it is shed.
There are other options as well for freckle removal, if you are interested, book your appointment at the Center for Dermatology, Laser and Cosmetic Surgery where Dr. Harold F. Farber M.D. can discuss these options with you.
