Nail fungus (onychomycosis) is an infection caused by a fungus that most commonly affects the big toe. This is very common and can spread to one or more of your nails. Signs and Symptoms include:
- Discoloration of the nail (white, yellow, or brown)
- Thickened or brittle nails
- Distorted in shape

- The nail and surrounding skin to check for infection
- A sample area of skin or nail will be collected to send to the lab to determine what is causing the problem.
Treatment for nail fungus include:
- If caught early, treatment will be with a topical medication that you can apply to your nails
- More serious infections will be prescribed with an antifungal pill.
- These work faster than topical medication but can cause side effects.
- Length of treatment
- Toenail treatment last around 12 weeks
- Fingernail treatment last around 6 weeks
