Piercing your ears can put you at risk for infections, tearing and other complications if the piercing is not performed properly. Even if the piercing was performed without any complications, you can develop keloid scarring around your earlobes. Wearing dangling or oversized earrings can further the probability of tearing your earlobes to the point where it will not return to its original form or you can no longer wear earrings.
If you are regretting piercing your earlobes or have a tear, Center for Dermatology, Laser and Cosmetic Surgery may have the perfect solution for you. At Center for Dermatology, Laser and Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Harold F. Farber, M.D. has over 30 years of expertise reconstructing the patient’s earlobes reverting back to a more natural, realistic appearance.
Surgery is done in-office when it is a simple tear or referred to our plastic surgeon when the reconstruction is more complicated. Surgery time depends on the size, damage, and tear of the earlobe. Earlobe reconstruction surgery requires sutures to be in place for a few days after surgery and will be removed during a post-op appointment. You may feel minimal discomfort after the procedure but usually is very short-lived. We encourage our patients to not immediately wear any earrings after surgery to ensure their earlobes have the time it needs to heal and rebuild.
If you or someone you know is interested to learn more about earlobe reconstruction, do not wait. Call Center for Dermatology, Laser and Cosmetic Surgery to schedule a complimentary cosmetic appointment with Dr. Harold F. Farber, M.D.
